Main Gate(winter)

The Main Gate was originally black, but painted over in white during the extensive renovation in the Shōwa period. According to the “State Guest House, Akasaka Palace Renovation Records”, it seems that the repainting was a major decision taken by Murano Tōgo who supervised the renovation, saying: “Changing the look of the State Guest House, Akasaka Palace was the biggest challenge and the most difficult job (for me).”
