Jean-Gabriel Eynard frequently photographed his closest friends and family. Here the deRegny family--parents holding their children, who wear matching plaid dresses--joined the Eynards at Eynard's house in Paris. The slight blur in the children's faces compared with those of the adults indicates some youthful impatience and movement during the daguerreotype's long exposure. Eynard himself appears seated in profile second from the right, with his wife at the far left.
This quarter-plate daguerreotype and others that Eynard made in the 1840s are smaller than the half-plate size he later favored.
