Majolica water recipient with lid

Lodi was the capital of Lombard ceramics and the Ferretti manufacture was one of the most advanced in the 18th century. This large water recipient in majolica (ceramic with stanniferous enamel) has shapes deriving from contemporary silverware and is enriched by a thin rocaille frame, painted in yellow, which frames a scene decorated with a "Triumph of Venus with tritons", painted in monochrome blue, in Baroque style. On the top appears a man dressed "in the chinese way" which witnesses the fascination for the "Country of Cathay" which flows into the European passion for "chinoiserie".
