Full-length portrait of Charles Vincent Bowie, a military secretary to Lord Canning during the latter's viceroyalty. He is dressed in a military uniform, and stands next to an armchair with a stripe pattern and tassels. He holds a hat against the back of the chair and places his other hand on the hilt of his sword. The floor is covered with a striped rug.
