Major Rose Window

Dominating the central nave is the great rose window, approximately 32 meters high. It was built by Jaume Mates in 1370. In 1599, it was enclosed with stained glass, although the panes currently in place date from the 20th century. It is the largest Gothic rose window in the world, measuring approximately 100 square meters in area and 12 meters in diameter. It is composed of 1,115 pieces of colored glass arranged in triangular patterns. For this reason, it is also known as "the eye of Gothic architecture."

This rose window is the site of two unique light phenomena: the first is known as the Festival of Light, which occurs twice a year, on Saint Martin's Day (November 11) and Candlemas (February 2), while the second takes place during the winter solstice.
