The washed petals are spread on a wooden box over a straw mat. Bamboo poles are placed over the wooden box, and another straw mat is placed over this. The petals are steamed in the shade using the outdoor heat by sprinkling water on the mat in the morning, afternoon, and evening. As the petals gradually ferment, their color changes from yellow to deep red.
