Symonston, Australia

Malachite is a green, very common secondary copper carbonate mineral with a widely variable habit. Typically it is found as crystalline crusts, often banded in appearence. It is also often found as mammillary aggregates and as botryoidal concentric clusters of radiating crystals such as this particular specimen shown. It is also frequently found as a pseudomorph after the oxidation of the blue copper carbonate mineral Azurite.
