Male Head

Ludwig Meidner created this idealized portrait of a praying Jew in 1947/48. His portraits are often self-portraits, even if only individual parts of the face – here, the eyes – bear a resemblance to Meidner’s physiognomy. The artist created other features, including the figures’ beards, from his imagination.
