Casa Buonarroti
Firenze, Italy

The model, in wax, was found in the writing desk of Michelangelo the Younger by Rosina Vendramin in the Nineteen-century. Initially considered a model for the David, was subsequently put in relation with the figure of the Sky that, together with the Earth, had to take place in the alcoves on the side of the tomb of Giuliano de’ Medici in the New Sacristy. However, the similarity of the head with that of the figure of Giuliano de’ Medici in the New Sacristy, allow to rule out Michelangelo’s autography in favour of that of a Florentine artist around the middle of the sixteenth-century.
