Male torso

Michelangelo1513 circa

Casa Buonarroti

Casa Buonarroti
Firenze, Italy

The model shows a study of a male torso, conceived from the beginning without head and upper and lower limbs. The high quality of the clear terracotta has led much of the criticism to refer it straight to the hand of Michelangelo, meanwhile according to Carlo Falciani it would be allocated to Pontormo. Tha work has been identified with a preparatory model for one of the Prigioni figures, designed to decorate the tomb of Giulio II in Rome.
