In 1970 this skull was dredged up from the river Waal at Hurwenen. What makes this
skull so special is that it has a malformation of the teeth. If you look closely, you’ll see two alveolar ridges on this skull. These are where the tusks of this mammoth were. One of these alveolar ridges is completely filled. This female mammoth lost her tusk at a young age.

In the early 1980s, researcher Dick Mol used this skull to make the first CT scan of a mammoth.
