Italian Gianni Versace (1946-97) created his American home in Miami, Florida, where in 1992 he purchased the Art Deco Villa Casa Casuarina and proceeded to transform it into a Baroque-style palace. Gilt suns (references to Louis XIV (1638-1715), the French ruler known as the “Sun King”) paired with the state’s tropical vegetation frame Versace’s beloved beach city—MIAMI— emblazon this vest. Not meant to be covered by a jacket, or even worn with a shirt, the bold print draws attention to its muscular wearer’s chest and arms.
