20 pattern-woven strips joined selvedge to selvedge by whip stitching to create a larger cloth; the cloth is dark blue and white; warp for each strip is white with narrow dark blue stripes; in plain weave passages the primary weft is generally white, although there are periodic dark blue horizontal stripes that traverse these areas selvedge to selvedge; there are also some narrow dark blue horizontal stripes with short weft floats that create a pebbly surface, almost as though the weft yarn is creped (further examination necessary to determine exactly how this effect was achieved) and narrow weft faced bands worked at intervals across plain weave portions of the strips; five-unit blocks of patterning are interspersed among the plain weave blocks; patterning blocks consist of three bands of dark blue weft faced weaving bordered at top and bottom with narrow bands of white weft faced weaving; between these three spaced bands are passages of plain weave, some with a single central band of weft faced patterning, some with double bands of weft faced patterning, some with brocaded "crescents", some with plain weave horizontal stripes, and some with no additional patterning; blocks of patterning have been planned and woven to alternate with plain weave passages forming an elongated checkerboard-like effect when the strips are joined; top and bottom edges of the cloth are finished with a turned and whip stitched ~1/2" wide hem.
