  • Biography: Bhupen Khakhar was born in Bombay in 1934. He was a self-taught artist. In 1962, he joined the Art Criticism course at the MS University, Baroda. By the 1980s, Khakhar had exhibited widely with many solo shows in London, Berlin, Amsterdam and Tokyo. In the year 2000, Khakhar was honoured with Prince Claus Award at the Royal Palace of Amsterdam. He won the Asian Council’s Starr Foundation Fellowship in 1986, and the prestigious Padma Shri in 1984. Bhupen Khakhar passed away in Vadodara in 2003.
