Spectacular pageantry keeps the crowd on its toes when Australian lifesaving clubs stage their big summer carnivals.Most important are held in ad around Sydney, where there are 26 Clubs in the metropolitan area., Each with a membership ranging from 100 to 500. Pictures taken at Manly show a typical carnival day.
Appearances in 15 different beaches and Surf events and the March past totaled about 300 women and 1500 men. Judging occupied the time of 50 officials. A feature of the 1947 season is the present of female teams in the same event.
