This is a mantel clock with a marble body decorated with
a bronze Roman soldier figure. The rectangular marble base of the mount is
decorated with four bronze lion’s paws with acanthus leaves, feet and a
decorative bronze band surrounding the entire body. The clock mechanism is
fixed into a similar marble square body atop which the soldier is seated. His
helmet is lying by his feet, while on the other side there is a square bronze
bas-relief with a cut-away corner and part of a lying marble ridged column. The
hour markings in Roman numerals (I-XII) have been cast in bronze and attached.
