Block 18 was on the western edge of the residential area of the camp, closest to the mountains. The men's latrine, women's latrine, laundry room, and ironing room are seen in the center space between the barrack buildings. A tank of heating oil is visible on the left, just behind the man wearing the hat.

Block 18 residents put up a basketball hoop in the open area in front of the men's latrine. The snow-covered 14,370-foot Mt. Williamson rises up in the background.
