Following the fall of the Ayutthaya Kingdom, the capital was moved to Thonburi where King Taksin ruled for 15 years. Upon the founding of the Chakri Dynasty, King Rama I, Phutthayotfa Chulalok, moved the capital from Thonburi to the east side of the Chao Phraya River, thus establishing the Rattanakosin (Bangkok) Kingdom in 1782.
