Map of the Turkish Empire

Johannes Janssonius (1588-1664) was one of several publishers who tried to satisfy the market’s lust for maps in the early 17th Century. Like most of his competitors he made use of older engravings as well as newly made ones. This map depicts the vast Turkish empire, reaching from the far east to Austria’s border.
