The Washed Up series consists of images crafted using plastic waste originating from fifty-eight nations and territories from six continents. This waste washed ashore along the Mexican coastline, where it was collected by the artist. Duran states that he “distributes the objects the way the waves would; at other times, the plastic mimics algae, roots, rivers, or fruit, reflecting the infiltration of plastics into the natural environment.” He hopes the project will raise awareness and change our habits of consumption and waste.
