Conjunto Arqueológico de Cástulo

Conjunto Arqueológico de Cástulo
Linares (Jaén), Spain

Marble sculpture that by the position of the toga and its stylistic features can be dated to the Flavian period, between 68 and 98 A.D.

It is an honorable sculpture of a child who has not yet reached manhood, age of 16, which is represented with the bulla, a pendant or medallion with an amulet inside, that children are put after birth to protect him from evil spirits.

This child must have belonged to one of the most important families of Cástulo, because without being able to make any important fact, the city of Castulo had granted him the erection of this statue in a public place.
