Marcus Cocceius Julianus Altar

This altar, discovered in the excavations of 1971, was dedicated by Marco Cocceyo Juliano and probably placed in front of the decorated front murus pulpiti of the Roman theater of Italica.

The exceptional nature of ara is given by the figurative motifs of their five faces: Marco himself and his family, accompanied by two minor deities identified as Fortuna and a Genius. All of them are represented in the form of statues on pedestals.

The inscription relates also that this family gave away some elements for the theater building, including two Caristio marble columns from Eubea.

Today it is exhibited at the Mueso Arqueológico de Sevilla.
