Maria Kampani
Supervisor of Metro lines at STASY (Urban Rail Transport)
Athens, Greece
“Guided by my passion for rail transport, I spent 18 years transporting Metro passengers to their destinations. While the Athens Metro has helped bridge distances in our daily lives, we women who steer the course of our own lives chart our paths toward a world without inequalities.”
Maria Kampani is 46 years old. She was born in Greece and currently lives in Athens. She is married and the mother of three wonderful children. Maria studied Accounting but decided not to pursue that field. She worked as an office employee and attended flight attendant training seminars, but they didn’t spark her interest. In the early 2000s, a new chapter began for her when as she was hired as one of the first female Train Drivers for the Athens Metro. Given her passion for speed and excitement, this job was a perfect fit. In 2003, she took on a new role in the Training Department as the first female Train Driver Trainer, a position she held for more than two years. Additionally, she served as Vice President and a board member of the Electric Train Drivers' Union, where she focused on daily operations and the labor rights of the profession. She remained a Train Driver until 2018, transporting thousands of passengers and gaining invaluable experience. For the past five years, she has been part of the Train Drivers' Department and has been promoted to Train Supervisor.
