At the insistence of Georgi Evstatiev, his teacher in drawing in secondary school, Datsov departed for Italy, where he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome. After completing his studies, he travelled around France and Belgium. He returned to Bulgaria as an already developed artist-symbolist. He painted figural compositions of varied subject matter, still lifes, and landscapes that clearly showed the influences of the aesthetics of Symbolism.
