Portrait of a woman, identified as Mariana Vitória de Bourbon, in an oval field on a rectangular canvas, from the front. Long face; forehead high and wide; thin, brown eyebrows; Brown eyes; prominent eyelids; small mouth and nose; stained faces. Left ear visible. Brown hair, long and intertwined at the top of the head, ornamented with pearl threads, brooch with red stone, blue ribbon and blue and white feathers; curl on left shoulder. Brown dress with a deep neckline, trimmed with a white lace bar. Below this, a double strand of pearls, pulled in the center, under a green bow and a brooch at the ends, with pendants finished in drops. On the sides, details of green and white mantle. Earthy tones background. Golden wood frame completely covered with stylized foliage.
Mariana Vitória de Bourbon e Farnésio (Madrid, March 31, 1718 - Lisbon, January 15, 1781) was an infant of Spain by birth and later queen of Portugal as consort of King José I. Mother of Queen Maria I of Portugal, she also served as a regent during the last months of her husband's life and as an advisor to her daughter in her reign. Grandmother of D. João VI.
