Marietta Gresti was born in Italy in 1826. She made her debut with success in the spring of 1844 at the Teatro Comunale di Ferrara in Saverio Mercadante's opera "Il Bravo" and then continued her career in Milan, Padua, Brescia, Florence, Modena, Bologna, also successfully.
During the 1848/49 and 1849/50 seasons she was in Lisbon (Real Theatro de S. Carlos) and Porto (Theatro de S. João). Her interpretation of Lady Macbeth in Giuseppe Verdi's "Macbeth" made a special furor.
