Marilla’s “most treasured possession” was her amethyst brooch. It happened to unnoticeably get caught in her shawl, but she insisted that Anne had misplaced it, refusing her attendance to a Sunday-school picnic until she confessed. Anne then told a tall tale about accidentally dropping it into the Lake of Shining Waters in an effort to get to the picnic!
