This is a stationary steam engine widely used for marine propulsion between the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the last century. Few specimen of large dimensions have survived today.
This engine is of English construction and datable from the end of the 19th century or the earlier part of the 20th. It has a valve system with two sliding valves (high and low pressure) driven by a Stephenson reverser system. The overall structure suggests its employment in medium-sized vessels such as yachts and fishing boats.
