The picture shows the illustrious surgeon Mario Donati at work in the operating room of the "Zonda" pavilion. The painter faithfully reproduces the instruments. Donati is responsible for the design of a stitch that still bears the name. The professor is surrounded by his assistants: among others we can recognize, from the left, Suor Antonietta, Pietro Cazzamali, Carlo Fumagalli, Carlo Lorenzetti, Giampaolo Coggi, Benedetto Austoni, Giuseppe Galli, Luigi Di Natale, Antonino Previtera, Anna Bertolasi (rare woman ), Giuseppe Nogara, Giulio Canger, Mario Tabanelli. Roberto Fantuzzi, the artist, is known for having painted a very large number of doctors and medical schools in the 1920s and 1930s in Italy and South America.
