This room of the McNay residence once featured built-in bookcases in each corner. Tables were laden with Mrs. McNay’s books, which became the nucleus of the McNay Art Museum Library.

In the early 1950s when the home was converted into a museum, the double-sided fireplace was closed on the inside, but remains as a nonfunctioning feature in the patio. On your next visit, take a peek at the floor tiles, which show remnants of the fireplaces' location.
