The Atlantic sailfish is a champion. It is the fastest swimmer in the world, with a measured record of 109 km/hr. Like the swordfish, the sailfish has a pointed snout which is not flat but round. The lower jaw is slightly shorter but longer than that of the swordfish. It owes its name to its huge dorsal fin, which the sailfish can fold back into a groove in its back.

Sailfish mate in the open sea. The female lays millions of eggs which float on the surface until they hatch.
