Toronto, Canada

During WWI, the exile of the ruling Rana family from Nepal forced them to search for suitable marriages alliances for their many daughters elsewhere, finding success in the Rajput courts. This is a particularly lavish work, meticulously done in a variety of mediums. Unlike earlier portraits, the carpet is represented with a perspective receding into the background and consistent with the rest of the image.
