During the summer of 1951 Renato Birolli stayed in Porto Buso, an island in the Venetian lagoon not far from Grado. From this moment on, his works will mostly be visions of landscapes closely linked to the places where he takes refuge - Fossa Sejore, Porto Buso, Manarola - and nature becomes the main character. "Marsh. Buso Port" is an abstract composition in shades of green, yellow and purple. A careful stylistic analysis of the work suggests that it was repainted by the artist himself in the mid-1950s: after all, Birolli often retouched paintings he had already made, as he himself admitted.
