Marshal Piłsudski – bust

A bust of a man in a uniform, sketchily marked. It is a natural-colored plaster cast, empty inside. It is 106 cm high, 31 cm wide and 44 cm deep.

The marshal is depicted wearing an attire characteristic of him. He was most often seen wearing a single-breasted jacket made of gray-blue gabardine. The jacket was fastened with five buttons. There were two small pockets with button-flaps on the chest, and two large pockets with button-flaps sewn below the waist. The jacket had a turn-down collar. On the Marshal's right chest there is a gala cord, also called an axelbant in German. This uniform ornament has been used in the Polish armed forces since the 18th century, initially by dragoon regiments, and then by regiments of guards. The Polish Army uses axelbants in the gala dress of generals, officers and non-commissioned officers.
