Martin Scheuregger is a composer based in the North of England. He is composer-in-residence at the British Music Collection (SaM Embedded) and Artistic Director of Dark Inventions. Aware of the music of the past as much as that of the present, he aims to engage and challenge audiences, with the notions of miniaturisation and brevity informing his work even when combined with large-scale structures. Martin’s music has been performed internationally by Orkest de Ereprijs, Dark Inventions, Kreutzer Quartet, The 24, Richard Casey, Chimera Ensemble, Stranded Ensemble, University of York Chamber Orchestra, and others. In 2014 a new work for Dark Inventions’ Firewheel Tour (SaM Composer-Curator scheme) will be performed in five venues across England. A large-scale performance is planned for a work written during his BMC residency. Martin is currently completing a PhD incorporating composition and analysis at the University of York, funded by the Arts and Humanities research Council.
