1983 would witness a nearly perfect season from Martina Navratilova. After winning her first 36 matches, she lost to Erika Kathleen Horvath in an upset in the fourth round of the French Open. After that match, she won the next 50 matches and swept the Wimbledon, US Open, and Australian Open titles. Despite being denied the Grand Slam, Navratilova became just the 11th player to have won all four major singles titles in a career.
