In the great battle between Lord Ram and Ravana, the latter’s son, Indrajit, invokes the celestial missiles bestowed upon him by Lord Brahma and immobilizes Lord Ram’s army. Jambavan requests Hanuman to fly to the Himalayas and bring back four medicinal herbs from a mountain situated between Mounts Kailash and Rishabha.
These herbs are Sanjivini (to resurrect the dead), Vishalya Karani (for extracting weapons and healing wounds), Suvarna Karani, to restore the complexion, and Sandhani, to reattach severed limbs or mend fractured ones. Hanuman immediately flies to the Himalayas and finds the mountain. As he gets to where the herbs are, they suddenly vanish. Not to be thwarted, he scoops up the entire mountaintop and returns to Lanka, where the herbs are found and used to revive and heal Lord Ram and his army.
