Masonic Centennial, Prince Hall Grand Lodge

Members of the Prince Hall Masons gathered at the gravesite of Prince Hall in Copp's Hill Burying Ground in Boston's North End for a centennial commemoration. Prince Hall was an entrepreneur and community leader who led the effort to establish the African Masonic Lodge, one of the first permanent organizational fixtures of the Boston free black community. The African Masonic Order, which took on the name "Prince Hall Masons" in honor of its founder, established branches around the country and internationally and continues to this day in Boston and around the world.
