If a journeyman cabinetmaker wanted to become a master, he had to make a prescribed piece of furniture and have it judged by the guild. However, to receive permission to produce this masterpiece, he first had to submit a personally executed drawing of the planned piece of furniture. Due to a signed and dated design this wardrobe can be attributed to Hans Jakob Setzendreibell (d. before 1742) from Würzburg. On November 8, 1703 he registered for the master examination with a design for an almost identical piece of furniture.
