Photograph of German immigrant, Mathilde Anneke, the First Feminist of Milwaukee and publisher of the first feminist newspaper to be published by a woman in America. She founded the "Milwaukee Daughters Institute" in 1865, one of the first girls' schools to teach mathematics and natural sciences.
