"Matte :: Matte Black sees a continuation from previous works by the artist in both
the theme of repetition of juxtaposed shapes and the further exploration of nontraditional materials. This particular piece encases ground iron oxide powder
under layers of encaustic as a base, while encaustics and mixed mediums are used
to create imagery through repetition and basic shapes. Each shape is made with
textured strokes and unique markings using an array of different materials. As a
group, the shapes translate order and a harmonious existence together, despite
their many differences. This process is reflective of the composition and
juxtapositions of our own personal relationships and being mindful in the ever evolving world in which we exist."- Melissa Stutts
