The artist's love of patterns is evident in this work, with the pattern of rattan mats presented on a Chinese hanging scroll. She has painstakingly recreated the texture of a mat in a repetitive motif not unlike woven fabric. On closer examination, it is almost a life-like replica of real mat. The uniform composition in Kwok's art invites the viewer to be aware of the most insignificant things around them. Kwok has employed this minimalist, direct approach to replace the clichéd narrative of pop culture. In doing so, she uses ordinary daily subject matter to express her personal understanding of modern society.
