With its summit over 10 miles above its submarine base, Mauna Loa is the world’s largest volcano.
Mauna Loa is one of the five volcanoes that is responsible for creating the island of Hawai’i, and is still active. Eventually, through contintental drift, Mauna Loa will be taken away from the volcanic region and eventually become inactive. This process will take hundreds of thousands of years.
