Dhruva Mistry is based in Baroda, India. Inspired by myth, he creates mythical human figures and animals. "Maya" means "illusion" or "dream" in Sanskrit. The sculpture expresses an illusionary icon. It is based on the legend of Maya, the mother of Buddha, who was informed of the birth of Buddha by a white elephant that came into her body in her dream. The exaggerated breast and fruit symbolize eternal fertility.
