National Museums of Kenya

National Museums of Kenya
Nairobi, Kenya

Folding rack made of split bamboo sewn together with calfskin. Made by women and used by them on the ground in front of the house for cutting up meat. The meat is placed on it and cut up either for drying or roasting the meat. It is used to keep the meat from contamination so that it doesn't get covered with dirt or grass. It serves the same function as a bundle of leaves which is used at the site of where the animal has been killed. The pieces of meat are placed on the leaves prior to carrying them home.
