Melvin Joseph Dalton was born in Newark, NJ and attended Seton Hall University from 1925 to 1929. He was inducted into the Seton Hall University Athletics Hall of Fame in 1980. This medal was presented to Dalton for placing third in the Olympic trials at Travers Island, New York for the 1928 Olympics in Amsterdam. He went on to compete in the Olympics finishing in seventh place.
