About the artist: James R. Butcher (Cpl, USMC) (1944 - present)
James “Jim” Butcher studied at the Maryland Institute College of Art. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1966, served in Vietnam with the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, and later became a combat artist. He returned to Baltimore and established himself as a successful commercial illustrator. Butcher continued his association with the Marine Corps Combat Art Program and documented various training exercises including Marine Corps test pilots in F/A-18 Hornets. Butcher currently lives in Maryland where he continues to paint.
