Mediterranean Moray

The Mediterranean Moray (Muraena helena) live on rocky and sandy beds, almost always inside cracks in rocks. They have long eel-like bodies and can grow up to almost five feet (1.5 meters) in length and weigh up to 33 pounds (15 kilos). Their skin color varies from gray to dark brown with a yellow and white pattern.

They always have their mouths open and look quite frightening but they do this to pass water into their mouths to breathe.

Morays are dangerous to humans because of the many bacteria and germs between their teeth. These come from the remains of food and can be transferred by a bite and cause a nasty infection.
