MEGA MENDUNG CLOTH

Chinese motifs are prominent in the arts of Cirebon. As an example, they have deeply influenced the batik designs that are known as Batik Cirebon. The Mega Mendung (rain cloud motif) clearly shows such influence. Mega Mendung is a series of gradations, depicting layers of clouds, starting from white and moving to light blue as well as deeper shades of blue, using indigo dyes. In the background of the cloud motif are floral designs, known as Patran. The background color is maroon, which is obtained from mengkudu (morinda citrifolia).
