Scroll or megillah with the Book of Esther, which is read during the Purim celebration. This festival commemorates the miraculous salvation of the Jews in Persia thanks to Queen Esther's intervention. The scroll has two parts: the manuscript and a cylindrical silver repoussé case, adorned with a crown. Curtains tied back with cords hang down over the opening in which the manuscript is placed. The case has a handle to bring the scroll out and make it easier to read.
